No. 12 Menards/Peak Ford Fusion – Ryan Blaney

Start: 8th
Finish: 1st (1st win the Can-Am Duel)
Status: Running
Laps Completed: 63/63
Laps Led: 6

Notes:

  • This was Ryan Blaney’s first Can-Am Duel victory at Daytona International Speedway in his fourth start.
  • Blaney led one-time for six laps after passing teammate Logano.
  • The Menards / PEAK Ford Fusion team made one pit stop on lap 11 for fuel-only and made no additional trips to pit road.

Quotes: “I can’t thank everyone at Menards and Peak enough for given me a really fast race car. We came close in the Clash and I didn’t make a good move and I kind of lost that race. I learned a little bit and I thought about that forever. I thought we learned a little bit from our mistakes. It’s so nice to bring the 12 car back to victory lane. Hopefully we can make it another one here on Sunday. That’s the one that counts.”

No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil Ford Fusion – Joey Logano

Start: 6th
Finish: 2nd
Status: Running
Laps Completed: 63/63
Laps Led: 56

Notes:

  • Joey Logano started sixth and finished second in the first of two Duels at Daytona International Speedway on Thursday evening.
  • Logano led a race high 56 of 63 laps in the event.
  • The No. 22 Shell-Pennzoil team pitted at lap 11 under the first caution period of the night, taking fuel only.
  • Logano’s second-place finish was his second runner-up finish of Speedweeks.

Quote: “We stayed together for quite some time. We were able to really control the pack which was a lot of fun to see that dominance. Just the way we all worked together was really cool. Blaney made the same move he did in the Clash down here in the tri-oval and I didn’t think he would do that again because it didn’t work for him in the Clash. It wasn’t going to work for him again. I had Brad pushing me and then the next thing I know they wadded up behind me again and the 100-feet I didn’t lead the race gave Blaney control. Then there were the two best friends that ever was on the bottom with Darrell (Wallace Jr.) and Blaney there. They pushed the heck out of each other. I couldn’t get the 31 close enough to keep me up there. I got a good run there at the end from the 17 (Ricky Stenhouse Jr.) and was able to get past Bubba to finish second. Two second’s so far this season which is good and bad. I would much rather win. Second is the first loser, so it always hurts the most. Two Penske Fords so far have won these races and hopefully we win the most important one on Sunday.”
