Greg Erwin
Crew Chief, No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang

Greg ErwinGreg Erwin enters his fifth season with Team Penske in 2017 and will lead the Championship-winning No. 22 NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) team for a third year. Coming off of an uncharacteristic season for the No. 22 team in which the team did not post a victory, Erwin looks to add to his nine wins, 11 poles, 54 top-five and 72 top-10 finishes as a crew chief for Team Penske and compete for another NXS Owners' Championship title (2013, 2014, 2015).

Erwin has produced consistent success with Team Penske. During the 2016 season, Erwin oversaw one win and three poles between the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang team and the part-time No. 12 Snap-on Ford Mustang team. In 2015, Erwin led the No. 22 team to its third consecutive Owners' Championship while posting seven wins and four pole positions.

For the 2014 season, Erwin made the transition from crew chief to help oversee all of Team Penske's XFINITY Series competition. The role represented a new challenge for Erwin, a proven winner in NASCAR who has a strong history in motorsports that spans back to his high school years in his hometown of Hatboro, Penn.

Erwin joined Team Penske in 2013 as he led led the NXS championship pursuit for the No. 12 Alliance Truck Parts/Wurth Ford Mustang team. Under Erwin's direction as crew chief, the team earned one victory and four pole positions with Sam Hornish Jr. behind the wheel, producing 16 top-five and 25 top-10 finishes. The team finished second in the championship as it fought for the title all the way to final lap of the season.

Learning his craft from the ground up as he worked on his father's race team while in high school allowed Erwin to hone his racing skills from an early age. He attended Clemson University where he majored in engineering while returning home during the summer months to work on the family race team.

After graduating in 1992, he earned a motorsport engineering scholarship that was partially funded by Ford and that kept him engaged in racing and school through 1993. During this time, he worked with different teams and landed at Diamond Ridge Motorsports in 1995. The following year he moved to SABCO Racing which later became Ganassi Racing. There, he served as an engineer in various capacities through the 2002 season.

Erwin kept his career moving forward as he joined Richard Childress Racing for the next two years. From there he moved on to Robby Gordon Motorsports where he earned his first-ever position as a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series crew chief. In 2007, an opportunity arose that landed the former racer at Roush Fenway Racing as the crew chief for Greg Biffle. During his tenure with No. 16 machine, the team earned five victories and berths in the Chase for three consecutive years.

Midway through the 2011 season Erwin and Roush Fenway Racing parted ways and within a week he had found a new home at Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM). Erwin worked as a crew chief for the RPM No. 43 team with drivers A.J. Allmendinger and Aric Almirola in 2012.

Erwin's attention to detail helped him continue his winning ways and he hopes to raise the level of performance even higher on the championship-winning XFINITY Series program this season. An outdoorsman who enjoys running, hiking and mountain biking, Erwin and his wife Susan have three children, Curtis, Kimberly and Colin. They reside in Mooresville, NC.
