NTT INDYCAR SERIES Race Report - Iowa Speedway Race 2

July 13, 2025

Farm to Finish 275 powered by Sukup
Newton, IA - July 13, 2025

JOSEF NEWGARDEN No. 2 ASTEMO CHEVROLET

START: 4TH
FINISH: 10TH
POINTS: 14TH (-308)

RACE RUNDOWN: Josef Newgarden and the No. 2 Astemo Chevrolet team finished 10th in Sunday's Farm to Finish 275 presented by Sukup at Iowa Speedway, a second consecutive finish that left the team frustrated as a win was within their grasp. Newgarden - the most dominant driver in NTT INDYCAR SERIES history at Iowa - began the second race of the doubleheader weekend from the fourth position before advancing to second within the first 50 laps. He would assume the lead on the first lap back to green following a Lap 50 caution period and gradually stretched it to several seconds before bringing his Astemo Chevy to pit lane for the second time on Lap 129. Unfortunately, the No. 2 team would suffer the first of two inopportune yellow flags as one was displayed just as he entered pit lane. After losing a lap in the pit cycle, Newgarden was forced to take the wave around before restarting the race from the 13th position. In typical Newgarden fashion, he aggressively set his sights on returning to the lead as he made quick work of the cars in front of him and took the top spot again with just 35 laps remaining. The team's final pit stop of the day on Lap 249 was under green flag conditions once again and this time his entry to pit lane was hampered by slower traffic and another untimely yellow flag that cycled Newgarden to 10th. To make matters worse, Newgarden radioed that something felt amiss in the suspension over the final laps of the race to keep him from mounting one final charge to the front.

NEWGARDEN'S THOUGHTS: "We just have to keep doing what we are doing. Team Penske is working incredibly hard; the whole group. Yesterday was a good day for everybody. You could see the spirits lift. We don't need to change what we are doing. They are doing a great job. They brought a fast Astemo Chevy here again today. We just keep doing the same thing."

SCOTT MCLAUGHLIN No. 3 XPEL CHEVROLET

START: 27TH
FINISH: 26TH
POINTS: 12TH (-281)

RACE RUNDOWN: After coming from the back to score a fourth-place finish in Saturday's race of the Sukup INDYCAR Race Weekend at Iowa Speedway, McLaughlin and the No. 3 Gallagher Chevrolet team felt confident they could do it again in Sunday's Farm to Finish 275 presented by Sukup. However, an incident not of their own making on the first lap of the race left them with a 26th-place finish. McLaughlin's spin in Saturday's qualifying session meant he would start from the back of the field for the second time on the weekend. When the race began, McLaughlin found himself just on the outside of a spinning Devlin DeFrancesco in Turns 3 and 4. The 2024 Iowa winner was nearly able to clear the incident but was hit in the left rear by DeFrancesco, knocking him into the outside wall. A quick diagnosis revealed damage too severe to continue.

MCLAUGHLIN'S THOUGHTS: "The Gallagher Chevy was going to be just as good, and I think I got caught up in someone else's accident. So, there's only so much you can do it to avoid it. I would have just got through, I probably would have gone through unscathed, but I got clipped there and unfortunately, yep, that is what it is. There were a couple of negatives this weekend, but I'll take a positive yesterday and just charge to Toronto."

WILL POWER No. 12 VERIZON CHEVROLET

START: 6TH
FINISH: 24TH
POINTS: 8TH (-271)

RACE RUNDOWN: Will Power and the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet team showed early speed in Sunday's Farm to Finish 275 presented by Sukup at Iowa Speedway, but an engine issue after just 21 laps completed left the team with a 24th-place finish. Power started the 275-lap race from the sixth position and looked to have a Verizon Chevy that could compete for his second win at Iowa before radioing to his crew on Lap 19 that he felt something wrong with his engine. He turned just two more circuits before the decision was made to bring him down pit road as a precaution to avoid further damage. It was determined that he could not continue.

POWER'S THOUGHTS: "Not sure what happened, an engine issue of some kind. It feels like Mid-Ohio. The car is good. We had improved upon yesterday. It felt like we would have had a great race today. Of course, you never know what could happen. It's a pity, we keep giving away days when we have a Verizon Chevy that could win. Just one of those seasons. Not much we can do."

The NTT INDYCAR SERIES will compete in its only international event on the schedule as they take to the streets of Toronto on Sunday, July 20. The race can be seen live on FOX beginning at 12:00 pm ET.
