NTT INDYCAR SERIES Race Report - MilwaukeeAugust 24, 2025Snap-on Milwaukee Mile 250
START: 7TH RACE RUNDOWN: Josef Newgarden and the No. 2 Snap-on Chevrolet team finished seventh in Sunday's Snap-on Milwaukee Mile 250 after a late-race caution altered the end of the race dramatically. Newgarden qualified his Chevy in the eighth position on Saturday afternoon but moved up one position on the grid due to a penalty to another competitor. He radioed to his crew that he was building loose on the first stint of the day, prompting a front wing adjustment on the team's first pit stop on Lap 57. As the handling on the Snap-on improved, Newgarden began to show his oval strength by driving up to the third position as the race moved past the halfway point. After making their final pit stop of the day on Lap 196, a very brief rain shower halted the action on Lap 209 with Newgarden holding down the third position. Newgarden, along with the first and second place competitors, elected to stay out while several others behind them elected to take fresh Firestone rubber. As the race resumed, Newgarden struggled to hold off those with new tires and crossed the finish line in the seventh position. NEWGARDEN'S THOUGHTS: "Just an unfortunate situation there at the end with a very difficult decision on whether to pit. We made the Snap-on Chevy much better throughout the day. The car really came to life after the second pit stop to where I could run the bottom like I wanted. Made up a ton of track position during that stint. Then rain drops out of nowhere. If we pit there is a risk we come out in the back half of the top 10. That's a lot of track position to make back up over a short stint. Congrats to Christian though. He was able to make it work."
START: 4TH RACE RUNDOWN: Scott McLaughlin and the No. 3 Sonsio Chevrolet team finished third in Sunday's Snap-on Milwaukee Mile 250 for their second podium finish - and sixth top five result - of the season. McLaughlin led Team Penske with a fourth-place qualifying effort on Saturday afternoon. The 2024 Milwaukee winner made a quick pass on the first lap of the race and settled into the third position until the team's first pit stop on Lap 56. A solid pit cycle pushed McLaughlin to the second position after all of the stops were complete, and he would hold down that spot until a Lap 209 caution for light rain. Like his teammate, Josef Newgarden, McLaughlin and crew elected to stay out during caution after making their final pit stop just 13 laps prior. Unfortunately, he would lose one position over the final laps to race winner Christian Rasmussen who was on fresher tires at the end. MCLAUGHLIN'S THOUGHTS: "We didn't quite have the car today in the Sonsio Vehicle Protection Chevy, but, we had a hell of a lot of fans out here today, and that that's a great thing for INDYCAR and a lot of momentum right now. Great to get a podium and, you know, we're here for wins, but the podium is awesome. I'm so proud to be back here. We're having a really good end to the year. That's exactly what we need for next year."
START: 6TH RACE RUNDOWN: Will Power and the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet team looked to be in a great position to score a podium finish in Sunday's Snap-on Milwaukee Mile 250 before their race ended prematurely due to a Lap 104 incident. Power started the race from the sixth position but lost two positions early before the Verizon Chevy came alive late in the stint. He visited pit lane for the first time on Lap 55 from the sixth position and cycled into the top five for the first time following strong work by the Verizon crew. After making his second pit stop of the day on Lap 101, Power attempted a move around the outside of the No. 8 entry in Turns 1 and 2 on Lap 104. He was forced wide and into the tire debris, causing him to make heavy contact with the outside wall as the No. 12 Chevy was unable to turn through the corner. The damage was diagnosed but it was quickly discovered that he would be unable to continue. POWER'S THOUGHTS: "I don't know what exactly happened there other that I got run wide in one and two. Once you are up there in the marbles you are just a passenger. It's a shame because we were making progress on the Verizon Chevy. With how the tires played out at the end, who knows. It would have been nice to have a shot."
