INDY 500 POLE HISTORY: Team Penske owns the most pole positions in the history of the Indianapolis 500. A total of 10 drivers have combined to win 19 top starting spots for the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing."

The first Team Penske pole position at Indianapolis came in 1978 when Tom Sneva became the first driver to average over 200 mph over a four-lap run. Indianapolis qualifying helped "Rocket" Rick Mears earn his nickname as he owns the most Indianapolis 500 pole positions with six, all coming with Team Penske. In 2024, Scott McLaughlin set the fastest four-lap average in history when he took the pole position with an average speed of 234.220 mph.

SUNDAY SCHEDULE: Atter positioning themselves inside the top 12 fastest qualifiers on Saturday afternoon, all three Team Penske drivers will have a shot to win the 20th Indianapolis 500 pole position in team history on Sunday afternoon. Similar to other NTT INDYCAR SERIES race weekends, the top 12 will be cut down to the Firestone Fast Six with all of the action broadcast on FOX starting at 4:00 pm ET.

THEY SAID IT: "It just was pretty quick there towards the line. I started to build a little loose at the end, so maybe just in a little bit of balance, but yeah it's close. I own that one too, I hit the limiter, going into the turn one, so I lost the chunk of speed. I think we can easily stay in the 33's. I'm really proud of the guys, the Pennzoil "yellow submarine" and Team Chevy. This car's good and we can definitely run for pole tomorrow. It's good in race trim. But I tell you, it is my fifth one of these, and it just does not get any easier."
