Recap: Professional racers want to win everywhere, but when you come to race in Detroit, and you have the name Penske on your chest you want to do you absolute best. The Acura Team Penske duo of Juan Pablo Montoya and Helio Castroneves put on quite a show in the Motor City during qualifying for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IWTC) race on the streets of Belle Isle Park. It looked as though Castroneves would start from the pole position before Montoya laid down a lap similar to his famous CART Series qualifying run on Belle Isle in 1999, stealing the top spot away with a track-record run of 1:19.373 seconds, or 106.585 mph around the 2.3-mile course. Castroneves’ run also broke the old track record – one of several on the new Michelin Pilot tires – and will start second following his lap of 1:19.580 seconds, or 106.308 mph. Both drivers will be looking for their first IWTC win at Detroit, but Castroneves does own three IndyCar Series wins on the island.

Race: Coverage of the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic will begin Saturday afternoon, June 1 at 12:30 pm ET on the NBC Sports Network and the NBCSN app. Coverage can also be heard on IMSA Radio.
