Team Notes: This weekend’s INDYCAR/NASCAR doubleheader at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that brings the two series together for the only time during the year has become a favorite of fans, drivers, and team employees. It’s a big weekend for everyone, but for Team Penske the biggest news of the week came on Thursday afternoon when Josef Newgarden was cleared by the INDYCAR medical staff to practice on Friday morning for Saturday’s Gallagher Grand Prix on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. Following a re-evaluation after the lone practice session, Newgarden was cleared for all activities, and he promptly placed his No. 2 PPG Chevrolet into the fifth position for the race. One position better than Newgarden is the No. 12 Verizon 5G Chevrolet of Will Power, who will have plenty of eyes on him during each qualifying session as his next NTT P1 Award will tie him with Mario Andretti for the most in series history. Scott McLaughlin – carrying the Gallagher colors for the first time this weekend – did not make it out of the first round in the No. 3 Chevrolet. He will start Saturday’s race from the 15th position.
