Notes:
Simon Pagenaud and the No. 22 Menards Dallara/Chevrolet team, on the heels of their win in Toronto, continued their hot streak as Pagenaud scored the pole position for Saturday night's Iowa 300 at Iowa Speedway in a 1-2-3 sweep for Team Penske. Will Power and the No. 12 Verizon Dallara/Chevrolet will start the race alongside in the second position with Josef Newgarden on the inside of the second row in third. Friday's on-track activities began with all three Team Penske drivers posting the top-three lap times in the morning practice session, with Newgarden leading the way in the No. 2 Hitachi Dallara/Chevrolet. The trio was able to follow that up in qualifying with Newgarden and Power slotting in just behind Pagenaud, the 2019 Indianapolis 500 champion. Perhaps the only hiccup on the day came in the final practice session when Pagenaud left pit lane with a fan still sitting on his No. 22 Chevrolet, bringing out a quick caution and resulting in a monetary fine at the end of the day. In spite of that, Pagenaud topped the final practice speed charts yet again with Newgarden just behind with the second fastest lap. Power finished final practice eighth on the speed chart.
