Recap:

  • Cooler temperatures welcomed the teams of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES on Saturday morning at Road America. Grip and tire management have been the buzz words around the garage – particularly on a warm Friday afternoon – and a kinder thermometer resulted in lower lap times during the morning practice session.
  • Josef Newgarden continued to show signs that he intends to get Team Penske into the win column this weekend as he led the morning session with a lap of 1:45.3399 seconds around the 4.014-mile layout after posting the third-fastest lap on Friday afternoon. Will Power also finished the session with a top-10 lap time at 1:45.9502 seconds in the No. 12 Verizon 5G Chevrolet.
  • In the afternoon qualifying session, Newgarden once again placed the No. 2 Chevy at the top of the scoring sheet with his second-consecutive NTT P1 Award following his pole-winning run in the second race of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix last Sunday. Both Power and Simon Pagenaud also pushed their way into the Firestone Fast Six round, qualifying in the fourth and sixth positions, respectively. Rookie Scott McLaughlin will start tomorrow’s race from the 17th position.
  • The Saturday activities concluded with a 30-minute practice session to give the teams a final opportunity to get their machines ready for 55 laps of intense racing action on Sunday afternoon. Josef Newgarden finished the session in the fourth position, followed by McLaughlin in 15th, Pagenaud in 19th and Power in the 23rd position.

Coverage: The REV Group Grand Prix will begin at 12:00 pm ET on NBCSN and on the INDYCAR Radio Network.
