Team Notes: In years past, Saturday of the Detroit Grand Prix weekend would mean both qualifying and racing for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES as the Dual in Detroit was the only doubleheader on the schedule. With only one race during the final weekend on Belle Isle the teams were able to focus solely on qualifying before Sunday’s 70-lap event. That focus paid off with Josef Newgarden’s second-consecutive NTT P1 Award on the tough Detroit street circuit, the 16th of his career. Will Power looked to be on a lap that would have transferred the No. 12 Verizon 5G driver into the second round of qualifying before encountering the No. 10 of Alex Palou, which slowed him considerably. He will start 16th. The bad luck did not end with Power as Scott McLaughlin was on a fast lap at the end of the second round until a red flag ended the session before he could cross the timing line. The driver of the No. 3 Gallagher Chevrolet will start 10th.
