Porsche Penske Motorsport 2025 IMSA Season Review
December 16, 2025

Porsche Penske Motorsport produced a dominant and memorable 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season, highlighted by signature race wins and culminating in a championship sweep across the series. For a historic second year in a row, Porsche Penske Motorsport captured the drivers’, teams’ and manufacturers’ IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship titles in the GTP class with the No. 6 car, driven by Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet. Over the course of the season, the team’s two entries produced four wins, 10 podium finishes, 13 top-five and 15 top-10 results and while securing the 48th championship in the rich history of Team Penske. It extended Team Penske’s record of at least one motorsports championship earned every year since 2012.

In addition, the No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 driven by Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy, also won the Michelin Endurance Cup, which is awarded by IMSA to the top-performing drivers in the five-race competition encompassing the marquee endurance races on the series schedule (Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen, Indianapolis, and Road Atlanta). The duo was consistently in contention for wins and competed for the overall championship throughout the season before ultimately finishing tied for third in the title chase while claiming back-to-back endurance cup titles.

History was made at the very start of the season, when Nasr, Tandy and endurance race co-driver Laurens Vanthoor successfully defended the No. 7 car’s victory from last year, claiming back-to-back victories at the 24 Hour of Daytona. Winning the coveted endurance classic has proved not only a prestigious affair and a major motivator for the entire team but also laid the groundwork for Porsche Penske Motorsport’s championship campaign. Together, both Porsche 963 entries led 517 of the 781 laps at Daytona, showcasing a commanding start to the 2025 season.

Additionally, Tandy achieved a personal milestone, earning his first Daytona 24 overall win and cementing his place in motorsport history as “Mr. 24 Hours.” With his victory, Tandy completed the coveted “Grand Slam” of endurance racing, becoming the first driver in sports car racing history to win all four major 24-hour endurance races: Le Mans (2015), Nürburgring (2018), Spa-Francorchamps (2020), and Daytona (2025).

The team’s second win of the season came at the next IMSA endurance round in Sebring, where the team once again made history. The No. 7 Porsche 963 dominated the race from start to finish, leading 166 of 353 laps and became the first team since 2017 to win Daytona and Sebring in the same season. It also marked the first time in the GTP era, which began in 2023, that a team won back-to-back endurance races. This win was especially notable for the Porsche and Penske partnership, as race day marked 17 years since Team Penske’s iconic overall victory at Sebring with the RS Spyder in 2008, which also came courtesy of the No. 7 Porsche.

And if winning the “36 Hours of Florida” wasn't achievement enough, Porsche Penske Motorsport continued its historic run by sweeping the podium at the 50th anniversary of the Grand Prix of Long Beach. A strategic decision not to change tires on the No. 7 963 proved crucial in allowing Nasr and Tandy to jump their competitors and capture their third consecutive win in the first sprint race of the IMSA season. The duo remained undefeated in the GTP class with the No. 6 sister car of Campbell and Jaminet tailing closely behind, continuing their podium streak alongside the championship leaders.

Porsche Penske Motorsport continued its winning streak at Laguna Seca, cementing the team's now four consecutive wins in the IMSA history books as the first team to ever do so. It was also the turning point for the No. 6 car as Campbell and Jaminet celebrated their first win of the season, clinching back-to-back Laguna Seca victories. Championship leaders Nasr and Tandy crossed the finish line in second place, less than two seconds behind their teammates. The winning performance helped Campbell and Jaminet close the gap to their teammates in the overall championship standings.

Ultimately, it was the relentless consistency of Campbell and Jaminet that carried them through the season. The No. 6 Porsche 963 earned a podium finish at the next race in Detroit, before posting top-five results at Road America and Watkins Glen, followed by a seventh-place finish at Indianapolis and a third-place effort at Petit Le Mans. With seven top-five finishes in nine races, the pair’s steady performance paved the way to clinching the 2025 IMSA Championship title.

The championship results by Porsche Penske Motorsport in 2025 provided a powerful testament to what can be achieved when two legendary brands unite with one shared vision. From the groundbreaking Porsche 917/10 and 917/30, to the iconic RS Spyder, and now the cutting-edge Porsche 963, Team Penske’s partnership with Porsche has pushed the limits of innovation and performance for nearly six decades and this year’s success adds another remarkable chapter to that story.

“I didn’t think it was possible, but Porsche Penske Motorsport followed up our amazing 2024 IMSA season, with a stellar performance in 2025,” said Jonathan Diuguid, Managing Director of Porsche Penske Motorsport. “Not only did our team and Porsche go back-to-back in all available championships, but we were also able to go back-to-back at the Daytona 24 Hours. In addition to this, we were able to add a victory at the 12 hours of Sebring and were victorious in the unofficial ’36 hours of Florida.’ What this group has accomplished over the past four years since the start of the program is nothing short of remarkable. This has only been possible through the dedication of our team personnel, drivers, Porsche, and many of our Porsche Penske Motorsport partners. We will definitely take time to recognize and celebrate our achievements in the IMSA championship in 2025, but we are also looking to add more trophies to our cabinet.”
