For a historic second season in a row, Porsche Penske Motorsport sealed the drivers', teams' and manufacturers' IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship titles with No. 6 car drivers Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet taking a podium at Petit Le Mans.

Under partly cloudy skies and temperatures of 77 degrees Fahrenheit, the two Porsche Penske Motorsport entries were unfazed by the last-minute change to the driver line-up. Julien Andlauer withdrew from his role as the third driver in the No. 6 car due to a medical emergency, meaning Laurens Vanthoor unusually drove as the third driver in both the No. 7 and No. 6 Porsche 963s through the race. It was an excellent display of teamwork from Vanthoor.

A caution almost immediately after the race start was indicative of the first third of the race with lengthy interruptions for incidents, but with a 10-hour race to contend with, the crews and its drivers focused on staying out of trouble and being consistent.

Shortly after the restart, Felipe Nasr in the No.?7 car advanced into the leading three, while the No. 6 sister car later spent a long stint at the front. Campbell pulled off an excellent first stint as, although he was left out on track when a caution came out in the early running, he wasn't fazed and overtook multiple cars. He was then rewarded with retribution as he and the No. 6 crew picked the perfect moment to pit just before another caution came out, jumping into the lead.

The No. 7 spent most of the first half of the race struggling to bounce back from needing to swap a nose after the splitter received damage in the opening few hours. Nasr, Vanthoor and Nick Tandy all drove well and remained out of trouble to tee up a bid to move forward in the final four hours.

While the No. 6 jumped up to second and set about reeling in the leader, the No. 7 stopped early just before two hours to go and used the power of the undercut to jump up to third. It meant a huge gain in track position, but less fuel than its rivals and that would mean an extra stop later in the race.

The final stint was tense, as every competitor needed to save fuel to make it to the end, meaning any pursuit of the leader had to be put on hold to save the necessary energy to make the finish. Jaminet in the No. 6 followed the leader into the pits for a late splash-and-go for fuel and came out two places lower in fourth, and claimed one position back as another car ahead had to stop.

The No. 7 was running fifth and set to take second in the championship, but contact dropped it to 10th, finishing third in the championship having been in the top two all year.

Assisted in this race by Vanthoor, the No. 6 car finished on the podium at the prestigious 10-hour race at Road Atlanta to clinch the title and help Porsche Penske Motorsport to seal a string of successes.

After winning the first four races of the year, Porsche Penske Motorsport and its drivers have remained consistent and won almost every championship available.

As well as the drivers', teams' and manufacturers' titles, Porsche Penske Motorsport also clinched the equivalent titles in the Michelin Endurance Cup with the No. 7 car of Tandy and Nasr, which are prestigious in their own right.

With the IMSA season now finished, Porsche Penske Motorsport still has racing to do this year. The World Endurance Championship (WEC) team heads to Bahrain on November 8 for the finale, also in the hunt for a drivers' and manufactures' title.

Roger Penske on this monumental milestone:
"This championship is a testament to the entire Porsche Penske Motorsport team and the hard work and dedication they invest into this program every day. The season started with four consecutive victories, including back-to-back 24 Hours of Daytona wins, and has continued into 10 total podiums. That type of success isn't accomplished without great drivers, leaders and a resilient crew. The commitment to winning together has been unwavering and defending the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship title is reflection of those efforts from all the men and women across both Mooresville and Germany."

No. 6 Car

START: 6TH
FINISH: 3RD

MATHIEU JAMINET'S THOUGHTS: "I've been chasing a success like this for over two years. In 2023 and 2024, I gave everything I had, but it just wasn't enough for a championship title, which was frustrating. That makes winning it now feel even more special. Doing it alongside my mate Matt Campbell makes it even more memorable. Huge thanks to everyone who played a part in this achievement."

MATT CAMPBELL'S THOUGHTS: "What a relief! We can now call ourselves champions of the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship - simply amazing! We've had a fantastic year. Many thanks to the team, to my friend and teammate Mathieu Jaminet, and to everyone working behind the scenes. It's a perfect day for our entire crew."

No. 7 Car

START: 4TH
FINISH: 10TH

LAURENS VANTHOOR'S THOUGHTS: "It was exciting and stressful having to drive both cars in the race. I'd never driven the No.?6 before - and then I had to take over the Porsche while it was leading. My two teammates in the car were fighting for the crown, so I couldn't afford to make any mistakes. Everything worked out perfectly: we secured all the titles, so it doesn't get any better than this."

URS KURATLE'S THOUGHTS: "Our car continues to be the most successful LMDh vehicle since the regulations were introduced. Today's race was extremely challenging, but once again we made the most of it."
